AT
THE HOLY LITURGY
The Typica: at the Beatitudes the troparia from the third and sixth
Canticles of the Canon of the Saint.
The Lesson
Prokeimenon: Tone 7
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
V. What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?
The Reading is from the Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians.
(Chapter 5, verses 8-19)
BRETHREN:
Walk as children of light: (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness
and righteousness and truth;) proving t is acceptable unto the Lord.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather
reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which
are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made
manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. Wherefore
he saith. Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ
shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools,
but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore
be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And
be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
Alleluia: Tone 1
Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout
for joy.
V. For the Lord hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.
The Gospel
The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew. (Chapter
4:25 to Chapter 5:12)
AT that time: There followed Jesus great multitudes of people from Galilee,
and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond
Jordan. And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when
he was set, his disciples came unto him: and he opened his mouth, and
taught them, saying. Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are
they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall
be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed
are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers:
for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which
are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you,
and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my name's
sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven.
Communion Verse
The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid
of evil tidings. Alleluia.
